FEI Explore may not necessarily be the only or right Innovation Pathway for your design or development challenge at hand. It depends on the nature of your innovation initiative and the respective questions you will have to answer for it.
As a rule of thumb we can say: incremental innovation and feature improvements do not have to graduate through FEI Explore. The same is true for process innovation in The Core. The more non-technological market uncertainty there is in your project (think: diverging stakeholder interests, process and behavior change on customer side, main competition from other industries, new business model, etc.), there more FEI Explore will be suitable for it.
